What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic health condition where the body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin properly. This leads to high blood sugar (glucose) levels, which over time can damage the heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and other organs.
In Ayurveda, diabetes is called “Madhumeha”, a type of Prameha (urinary disorder), mainly caused by imbalance of Kapha dosha and improper digestion (Mandagni). This leads to excessive sweetness in urine and weakness in tissues (Dhatus).
Who is at Risk of Diabetes?
Diabetes can affect anyone, but the risk is higher in people who have:
- Family history of diabetes
