What is Detox?
Detox (short for “detoxification”) means cleansing the body of toxins, waste products, and impurities that accumulate due to unhealthy food, pollution, stress, alcohol, smoking, or irregular lifestyle.
In Ayurveda, this is related to removing “Ama” (undigested toxins) from the body to restore balance of Doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha).
Who Needs Detox?
Detox is generally helpful for people who show these symptoms:
- Constant tiredness / low energy
- Poor digestion (gas, bloating, constipation, acidity)
- Headaches, brain fog
- Skin problems (acne, dull skin, rashes)
- Weight gain / stubborn fat
- Poor immunity (falling sick frequently)
- Joint pain or stiffness
Possible Risks of Detox (If done wrong)
Many people follow harsh detox methods (like only juice diet, fasting without guidance, or overuse of laxatives). These can cause:
- Weakness, fatigue, and dizziness
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Dehydration
- Worsening of health conditions (diabetes, BP, thyroid)
So, detox must always be done in a safe, guided, and balanced way.
